UK-based NR Marine Services has appointed Walker Marine Design (WMD) to design a new class of crew transfer vessels (CTV)
NR Marine Services’ new Cyclone-class CTV will build on the capabilities of the Storm- and Typhoon-class CTVs operated by the company.
The Norfolk-based owner said the Cyclone class will provide enhanced onboard accommodation and welfare facilities, “offering a new level of comfort and functionality for offshore operations.”
NR Marine’s Storm-class vessels were designed by WMD and built at Isle of Wight shipyard Diverse Marine. The company said the Cyclone-class “will continue NR Marine’s commitment to supporting both UK design and shipbuilding.”
With an extended 29-m hull, the Cyclone class will allow for increased internal volume, accommodating up to six cabins and 24 passengers.
Key design features include a length of 29 m, deck cargo capacity of 30 tonnes, propulsion in the form of four Volvo Penta IPS1050 and a maximum speed of 28 knots.
NR Marine Services director Owen Nutt said, “Working with WMD on the new Cyclone range was a no-brainer. Its previous designs have exceeded our expectations. We are excited to welcome this new vessel into our fleet.”
WMD project manager Nikki Walker said, “We have really enjoyed seeing NR Marine grow since the delivery of its first WMD-designed vessel. Being trusted to help it develop a new class of vessel is a huge compliment. We look forward to seeing the Cyclone Class take shape and enter operation.”
