Electric ferry Nesvik has been delivered and has started service on the Hjelmeland-Nesvik-Skipavik route
"Nesvik has an exciting design, an easily accessible passenger lounge with quality equipment on the bridge," said operations manager for the route, Anette Røberg who took part in the sea trials.
A statement explains, “Nesvik is larger and more spacious than Hjelmeland, which also operates on the interconnector, and significantly larger than Sigrid, which is now being replaced by Nesvik.”
The ferry was designed by LMG Marin and built by Westcon Yard in Ølen. The vessel has capacity for almost 300 passengers and 80 cars. “Nesvik has a large passenger lounge located under the car deck and just above the waterline, which gives passengers the feeling of sliding across the fjord in total silence,” said Norled in a statement.
Nesvik is the sister ferry to Hydra, which is also being built at Westcon. Both vessels are designed to use the least amount of energy. Hydra will be the world’s first hydrogen-powered ferry, but Nesvik could also be upgraded to hydrogen in the long term.
"We are very pleased to have another modern zero-emissions vessel in Norled’s portfolio… It is impressive that both shipyards and suppliers were able to deliver Nesvik according to the original schedule despite all the challenges related to the coronavirus situation," said Norled technical director Sigvald Breivik.
