As environmental regulations tighten and owners’ environmental expectations rise, new support vessels will be required with lower emissions and higher efficiency
Naval architects are modifying designs for offshore support vessels to produce new versions that are greener, cleaner and more sustainable for the next generation of assets set to be built.
Focal Marine & Offshore managing director Shu Jun says there are many green technologies that could be installed in these vessels, leaving owners with various options for cutting their environmental footprint.
He expects a combination of batteries and dual-fuel ready generators or engines to be the most popular due to their flexibility.
Mr Shu was speaking to Riviera during an interview at the Offshore Support Journal Conference, Middle East, held in Dubai in December 2024.
