A Chilean container terminal is deploying a digital twin to improve efficiency
San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI) is deploying a digital platform to enhance operational visibility, equipment management, and to improve efficiency.
The Chilean port, jointly operated by Hanseatic Global Terminals and SSA Marine, is implementing the digital twin as a virtual and visual representation of the terminal’s real-time operations.
STI said the digital tool enables users to view terminal activity online, including the terminal tractors, container handlers and cranes.
“This implementation highlights the work developed internally by STI teams in the use and optimisation of telemetry,” said STI general manager Andrés Albertini.
“Thanks to this joint effort, it is now possible to identify in real time the location and key information of the equipment operating at the terminal.”
STI worked with NextPort to deploy the digital twin and fitted equipment with Black Dog cards, a device developed and manufactured by STI’s reliability team.
This card enables operational data from each piece of equipment to be transmitted in real time to a central system for analysis to provide operational insights and maintenance information.
Mr Albertini said combining these technologies is an “integrated solution that strengthens operational management, improves decision-making and enables us to continue driving a more efficient and continuous operation.”
STI’s next step is to use telemetry data and the digital twin to optimise transport routes and reduce fuel consumption and equipment wear.
