Marine and offshore equipment provider KenzFigee has been awarded a contract by Dutch vessel owner Spliethoff to supply two pipe-handling gantry cranes for two newbuild multipurpose DP2 B-type vessels
The multi-purpose vessels (MPVs) are under construction at China’s Mawei Shipyard.
Working in close collaboration with Spliethoff, KenzFigee designed the pipe-handling gantry crane to move pipes from a pipe-handling platform to a position in the cargo hold.
Spliethoff executive board member Arne Hubregtse said, “With the customised pipe-handling gantry crane we will be able to safely and efficiently load and discharge pipes, both on and offshore.”
Among the innovations in this specially designed electric-driven gantry crane is an anti-sway and semi-automatic movement system enabling them to operate unmanned in the cargo hold, further enhancing safety and production during offshore operations. A redundant power supply will improve reliability and availability of the crane, which will have a special integrated interface with the hatch cover system to create more loading capacity.
Each KenzFigee pipe-handling gantry crane will have a SWL capacity of 140 tonnes, a width of 19.18 m and a weight of 168 tonnes. The length of the crane is adjustable, allowing it to handle pipe sections of 12.5, 18 and 25 m and multiple pipes.
The gantry cranes will be built, assembled and tested at the premises of KenzFigee in Zaandam, the Netherlands, after which they will be disassembled and shipped to Mawei Shipyard for installation on the B-type vessels in Q1 2021.
Designed by Dutch naval architectural and marine engineering firm Conoship International, the 141.3-m B-Type MPVs will also be equipped with two Huisman 500-tonne heavy-lift mast cranes to support heavy-lift transportation and offshore installation.
