Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has delivered 24,116-TEU box ship MSC Tessa to MSC
The vessel is reportedly the largest box ship delivered so far, pushing above Evergreen’s Ever A lot, which previously held the title.
Bank of Communications Financial Leasing in China ordered the vessel for MSC in 2020 as part of a US$600M four-box ship deal.
MSC Tessa has been built to be energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Classed by DNV, the vessel’s features include a hybrid scrubber and an air lubrication system which reduces energy used and emissions by 3% to 4%. The shaft generator also reduces fuel consumption.
MSC Tessa’s sister vessels are slated to be delivered later this year, with one having completed sea trials, and the remaining two under construction.
