Maritime satellite communications distributor has committed to installing a bonded, multi-network service across several fleets of vessels within a year
More than 300 vessels will be fitted with a bonded satellite communications service in the next 12 months as several owners and their seafarers gain the benefits of high-bandwidth connectivity.
Pulsar International will expand its global engineering, sales and service-delivery teams to manage these installations on both newbuilds and existing ships.
This follows its latest commitment to Viasat subsidiary Inmarsat Maritime to install NexusWave on more than 300 vessels in 12 months, starting in October 2025.
NexusWave combines communications in Ka-band and L-band over Viasat’s geostationary orbiting satellites, including Inmarsat’s Global Xpress, with Eutelsat OneWeb low Earth orbit constellation and coverage offered by long-term evolution 4G and 5G coastal networks.
This bonded multi-network service provides high-speed and low-latency communications supporting shipowners in their digitalisation strategies and enhancing crew welfare.
“We are extending our partnership with Inmarsat Maritime and investing in our workforce to bring this transformative solution to more than 300 vessels over the coming year,” said Pulsar International president and chief executive Robert Sakker.
“Our customers expect solutions that are secure, dependable and future-ready, enabling both the operational performance of their fleets and the well-being of their crews. We are committed to ensuring every NexusWave installation delivers maximum value from day one.”
Inmarsat Maritime president Ben Palmer said Pulsar’s commitment reflects the momentum Inmarsat has seen across the shipping industry towards secure, bonded, multi-network connectivity.
“Shipping companies are looking for connectivity that goes beyond bandwidth, delivering an ecosystem that is secure, bonded across multiple networks, and assured by service-level guarantees,” said Mr Palmer.
“We can enable owners and operators to run smarter and more sustainable fleets while ensuring their crews stay connected to home wherever they sail.”
