Anna Angelicoussis-led Alpha Gas has entered into a partnership agreement with HD Hyundai Marine Solution concerning three LNG carriers
The Greek branch of the South Korean marine services provider announced it will support the shipowner by supplying main and auxiliary engine parts, along with related services for its vessels. Additionally, the partnership will incorporate HD Hyundai’s digital transformation platform, enabling real-time monitoring of vessel conditions and delivering optimal operational support.
“This agreement will play a crucial role in ensuring the stable operation of the vessels through timely parts supply and professional services,” stated HD Hyundai Marine Solution.
In late 2024, the South Korean company announced a similar collaboration with Paris Kassidokostas-Latsis’s Latsco for the provision of spare parts and servicing of auxiliary engines on two LNG carriers in Latsco’s fleet. Notably, Latsco is already utilising Hyundai’s digital control solutions to monitor and analyse auxiliary engine statuses and alarms.
Two leading partners
Alpha Gas is part of the Anna Angelicoussis shipping group, which also includes Alpha Bulkers and Pantheon Tankers. The company currently owns eight LNG carriers and is running a newbuilding programme in South Korea for four very large gas/ammonia carriers, with deliveries scheduled through 2027.
One of Alpha Gas’s vessels, Energy Endurance, recently delivered the commissioning cargo to Germany’s new floating storage and regasification unit Excelsior at Wilhelmshaven.
HD Hyundai Marine Solution is recognised as a leader in engineering-based marine services. According to South Korean media reports in early June, the company has secured contracts to modify the engines of 74 vessels to meet eco-friendly standards this year, with total sales estimated at around US$45M. The company is actively promoting its engine part load optimisation (EPLO) service.
EPLO significantly enhances marine engine efficiency in their most frequently used power range by optimising turbocharger configurations. This improvement is achieved by downsizing the turbocharger’s turbine and compressor and derating the main engine.
