A shipmanager has entered into a strategic partnership with a technology provider to install digital watchkeepers on up to 750 vessels to enhance crew situational awareness
Anglo-Eastern has become the first major shipmanagement company to commit to retrofitting ships with a tool supported by artificial intelligence (AI) to improve situational awareness for bridge teams and lower collision risks.
Hong Kong-headquartered Anglo-Eastern Ship Management has formed a partnership with Orca AI to install AI-powered digital watchkeepers on more than 750 ships. These modules have cameras and software for identifying and tracking potential hazards at sea, even in low-visibility conditions, and provide this information to crew to help mitigate collision risks.
Orca AI’s platform includes SeaPod digital watchkeeper and FleetView, a shoreside monitoring tool that provides actionable insights for managing teams.
“Safety is paramount, and the Orca AI platform provides an extra layer of support when it matters most,” said Anglo-Eastern chief information officer Torbjorn Dimblad.
“By reducing workloads and providing alerts and recommendations in critical navigation scenarios, we are actively driving safety and operational efficiency, alongside key initiatives in upskilling our crews and fostering young talent.”
Anglo-Eastern Univan Group has more than 750 vessels under full technical management, around 500 additional ships under crew management, and over 1,000 newbuildings and conversions across its newbuilding supervision and project management divisions.
“This partnership with Orca AI reflects our continued commitment to shaping the digital future of shipmanagement,” said Mr Dimblad. “I am overseeing the digital transformation of our extensive and varied fleet, with huge potential for insight generation and risk mitigation.”
Orca AI’s platform is used by several ship operators, owners and managers to improve navigational safety, cut fuel consumption and reduce emissions.
