Singaporean OSV owner expands global presence with charter of multipurpose geotechnical drilling vessel in the Americas
Britoil Offshore Services (BOS) reported that its DP2-class multipurpose platform supply vessel (MPSV) BOS Princess has been repositioned to Guyana to begin “operations for a tier-one offshore energy client.” AIS data indicated that the MPSV was sailing from Trinidad & Tobago to Georgetown, Guyana on 17 February.
The Singapore-based owner reported the diesel-electric-powered vessel was previously on charter to Sealaska.
Last year, 2016-built BOS Princess was converted at Turkey’s Besiktas Shipyard from a PSV to a multipurpose geotechnical drilling vessel. During the conversion, the shipyard installed a moonpool, rig tower, and A-frame to support “precise geotechnical operations in diverse offshore conditions,” said BOS.
BOS Princess is equipped with Seas Geosciences’ advanced geotechnical suite — including a 350kN automated seabed CPT system, deepwater drilling technology, and a fully customised topside rig designed for efficient operations across both shallow and ultra-deep waters. These capabilities allow the vessel to execute simultaneous downhole and seabed investigations from 10 m to beyond 4,000 m of water depth.
The arrival of BOS Princess in Guyana expands the OSV owner’s footprint into one of the world’s hottest offshore energy markets.
Guyana is one of the fastest-growing oil producers, with recoverable reserves estimated at more than 11Bn barrels of oil equivalent. ExxonMobil Guyana and its Stabroek block co-venturers, Hess Guyana Exploration, and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana, announced in November that they had reached a new production milestone of 900,000 barrels of oil per day (b/d). ExxonMobil estimates that its eight deepwater developments in the Stabroek block will have a total production capacity of 1.7M b/d by 2030.
“Guyana’s emergence as a major deepwater hub aligns with our objective of delivering high-quality, versatile offshore services to operators engaged in frontier exploration and development activities. The vessel’s unique capabilities position Britoil to deliver meaningful value to ongoing and future projects in the region,” said the company.
