GMT - ONLINEBourbon Marine & Logistics has again formed a local partnership with another shipping company to provide offshore and port support in a growth market
It has formed a local venture with Guyanese company Tethys Marine & Logistics to grow its presence in Guyana at a time when major oil companies are developing the deepwater hydrocarbon resources with offshore drilling rigs, floating production systems and subsea networks.
Tethys Marine & Logistics will be a 51% shareholder of the Bourbon Guyana joint venture, which will operate six vessels, including large platform supply vessels, anchor-handing tugs and supply ships and tugs.
With 75% Guyanese directors, Bourbon Guyana becomes the first indigenous offshore support vessel operator in the South American country, and it will be fully compliant with the most recent local content regulations.
It promotes local employment, with more than 70 Guyanese seafarers on board its vessels.
“Bourbon becomes a Guyanese company in the country with a local majority shareholder,” said Bourbon Marine & Logistics chief executive Rodolphe Bouchet.
“This is a very important aspect for us as we always want to include local content in territories in which we are present.”
Bourbon Guyana said it offers a full range of marine and offshore services. It supports ExxonMobil and offshore engineering group Saipem in Guyana, developing the Stabroek field.
“We share the same culture with Bourbon and our visions for the future of the industry in Guyana are aligned,” said Tethys Marine & Logistics chief executive Jaikerran Persaud. “It is important for Bourbon Guyana to consolidate its leadership position in this promising territory.”
This is the second partnership Bourbon has formed this year to benefit from growing offshore and marine markets.
In February 2023, Bourbon Offshore and Horizon Maritime launched a new joint venture, Bourbon Horizon, to provide marine services and operations in Canadian offshore markets, particularly off Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and in the North Sea.
ExxonMobil and Saipem have worked together to develop multiple deepwater oil and gas fields in the Stabroek block offshore Guyana with networks of subsea wells, flowlines, pipelines and umbilicals linked to floating production storage and offloading vessels.
This includes developing Liza Phase 1 and 2, Payara and Yellowtail and will soon include the Uaru oilfield after Saipem won a contract covering this development in December 2022.
The contract scope includes the design, fabrication and installation of subsea structures, risers, flowlines and umbilicals for a large subsea production facility.
