Energy companies in Brazil and Malaysia have generated employment for offshore support vessels for accommodation, maintenance and construction work
In Brazil, Petrobras has extended its contract with Prosafe for semi-submersible accommodation vessel Safe Zephyrus to keep it employed supporting commissioning work on deepwater oil production hubs until September 2027.
This 2016-built, GVA 3000E design vessel has dynamic positioning to DP3 class and sufficient beds in single cabins to accommodate 450 offshore workers.
Under the current 650-day firm period, it was scheduled to finish work in February 2025, but this has been extended by 954 days and the daily fuel allowance has been increased from 20 m3 to 25 m3. The value of the contract extension is around US$107M.
“Safe Zephyrus has been performing extremely well for Petrobras, serving its role supporting safety and maintenance within the important Buzios business unit offshore Brazil,” said Prosafe chief executive, Terje Askvig. “This significant extension emphasises the continued and increasing demand for high-specification units in Brazil.”
During Q1 2025, Prosafe will reactivate Safe Caledonia in Scapa Flow, UK, before it is mobilised to the Captain field in the UK sector of the North Sea in June 2025.
Prosafe is also reactivating Safe Boreas, which has been laid up in Norway, before it is towed to Australia in Q2 and Q3 2025 to start a contract in October 2025. Its vessel Safe Scandinavia remains laid up in Norway.
Riviera’s Offshore Support Journal Subsea Conference 2025 will be held in London on 3 February 2025.
