An expanding Saudi Arabian shipping group, specialising in offshore support vessels, is expecting delivery of a new diving support vessel (DSV) within two years
Jana Marine Service Co, with a growing fleet of offshore support vessels, is entering the diving support sector in the Middle East with a newbuild under construction in China.
A shipyard linked to Chinese government-backed Guangzhou Salvage is building this 98-m saturation DSV, to be named Jana 201 when completed.
As part of this project, Cargotec subsidiary MacGregor has been awarded a contract to deliver a 100-tonne active heave compensating (AHC) crane for this vessel. MacGregor said it will deliver this crane in Q2 2026, with the DSV delivery scheduled for later in 2026.
This will be the first DSV in Jana Marine’s fleet, which includes nine offshore support vessels, 13 crew transfer vessels, three jack-up barges and two mooring vessels.
MacGregor said its local sales team will work in close co-operation with Guangzhou Salvage throughout the project to ensure the crane’s seamless integration into the vessel and optimise its performance.
“Timely delivery, reliability and innovation are core capabilities for us and qualities that we also seek from suppliers,” said Guangzhou Salvage Bureau Co manager Tang Renjian.
“We are working with MacGregor again on the successful completion of a highly significant project for our shipyard.”
MacGregor senior vice president for offshore solutions, Pasi Lehtonen, said its 100-tonne AHC crane has proven its performance and reliability on a previous ship built by the Guangzhou Salvage shipyard.
Jana Marine is expanding its fleet as it strives to meet growing demand from its clients such as Saudi Aramco, Saipem, McDermott International, Larson & Toubro, Al Khafji Joint Operations and Halliburton. It has two self-elevating jack-up barges, to be named Jana 506 and the Jana 507, on order to Zentech Z-210 Type-C design and had crew vessels built by Grandweld Shipyard in the United Arab Emirates.
