The Norwegian vessel owner will expand its fleet in Brazil after winning long-term charters in a competitive tender process
DOF Group is increasing its fleet of offshore support vessels in Brazil after gaining several contracts with state energy group Petrobras.
It intends to mobilise two anchor handling tug and supply (AHTS) vessels from the North Sea to Brazil to service new charter contracts.
Petrobras has chartered DOF-managed 2010-built AHTS Skandi Jupiter (ex Havila Jupiter) and AHTS Skandi Mercury (ex Havila Venus), each for three years, plus options to support its deepwater drilling campaigns, starting in Q2 or Q3 2025. During this period, they will operate as AHTS vessels with up to 230 tonnes of bollard pull.
DOF said it has also won contracts in the same competitive tender process for three other AHTS - Skandi Amazonas, Skandi Rio and Skandi Botafogo.
Both Skandi Jupiter and Skandi Mercury are currently operating in the UK sector of the North Sea and will be towing the Western Isles cylindrical floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) from Dana Petroleum’s Western Isles fields to a Scottish shipyard for modifications and upgrades.
This Sevan 400 design FPSO will be redeployed on NEO Energy’s Greater Buchan field redevelopment project, which is scheduled to come onstream in H2 2026. Skandi Jupiter and Skandi Mercury will be transferred to Brazil after surveys and maintenance in Q1 2025.
Also in Brazil, Petrobras will charter 2009, Brazil-built multipurpose support vessel (MPSV) Skandi Salvador to support subsea installations at its deepwater fields in the Santos basin for at least 180 days, starting immediately.
With two work-class remotely operated vehicles and a 140-tonne active heave-compensating crane, Skandi Salvador is already working for Petrobras on the Libra project until the beginning of August. DOF said 2006-built MPSV Geoholm has started the contract as a front runner until Skandi Salvador is released from its current commitments. DOF Subsea Brazil will provide survey services on these vessels during the 180-day contract period.
“With Skandi Jupiter and Skandi Mercury, we are expanding our fleet and further increasing our footprint in the AHTS segment in the region,” said DOF Group chief executive Mons Aase. “With Skandi Salvador and the survey services contracts we are expanding our client base and reinforcing our position in these services in Brazil.”
