Engine monitor certified as cyber secure

Classification society ABS has certified that MAN Energy Solutions demonstrated its MAN CEON machinery monitoring solution is secure from cyber issues. This digital platform has received an ABS cyber-security product design assessment (PDA) certificate confirming its cyber resilience.

CEON connects machinery to Amazon Web Services cloud storage platform where it can be monitored, processed and analysed to provide near real-time information on efficiency and the condition of vessel components, modules and systems.

The PDA is part of the ABS CyberSafety Program that helps equipment manufacturers identify and remedy system-specific cyber-security vulnerabilities through risk management processes and governance.

“As connectivity and reliance on digitally enabled systems increase, more risk is introduced into the maritime supply chain,” said ABS senior vice president and chief technology officer Patrick Ryan.

“By working with the ABS CyberSafety team to address the risks, MAN Energy Solutions is giving owners confidence that the known vulnerabilities can be managed to minimise the impact on a vessel’s cyber-security posture, while providing useful operational information.”

MAN CEON continues to be developed in accordance with the Guide for ABS CyberSafety for Equipment Manufacturers.

It is “characterised by advanced data-analysis capabilities and offers real-time monitoring and support for MAN products worldwide,” said MAN Energy Solutions chief digital officer Gregory Puckett.

“The platform integrates data analytics, machine learning and predictive technologies to optimise performance, enhance efficiency and minimise downtime.”
