Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyards had a busy six weeks as demand for powerful Chinese tugboats continues in the domestic market in Q4 2022
The Jiangsu province shipyard has delivered six harbour tugs and launched four others since the start of November.
Its latest deliveries were two 5,000-kW, azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugboats built for Zhoushan Port. Zhou Gang Tuo 46 and Zhou Gang Tuo 47 were delivered to the port operator 6 December with FiFi1 fire-fighting systems and a bollard pull ahead of 85 tonnes. On 2 December, Zhou Gang Tuo 43 and Zhou Gang Tuo 45 were also delivered to the same operator. These 41-m tugs have a beam of around 11 m, depth of 5 m, bollard pull astern of 77 tonnes and speed of 14 knots.
In November, two tugboats were delivered to Chinese clients on consecutive days. Hainan Hongzhou welcomed ASD tug Hua Hai Tuo 8, with 4,020 kW of total power and bollard pull ahead of 64 tonnes. It has an overall length of 39 m, beam of 11 m, depth of 5 m, astern pull of 57 tonnes and speed of 14 knots.
Wei Xiao Tuo 1 was handed over to Weihai Port Barge Co in Liaoning on 8 November. This has an overall length of 40 m, a beam of 11 m and a depth of 5 m. Its 3,824 kW of power gives this ASD tug a bollard pull ahead of 64 tonnes, astern pull of 58 tonne and speed of 13 knots.
At the start of this month, Zhenjiang Shipyard launched ASD tugboat Wen Xiao Tuo 16, which it is building for Wenzhou Port Service Co with a FiFi1 fire-fighting system and 3,824 kW of total power. In November, the shipyard launched Wen Xiao Tuo 17 with the same characteristics for the same client.
This followed the launch 24 November of Yong Gang Xiao Tuo 15 for Ningbo Oil Handling & Tug (Barge) Co. This will be a 4,116-kW ASD tugboat with FiFi1.
On 9 November, Zhenjiang Shipyard launched ASD tugboat Cao Gang Tuo 31 with 4,780 kW of power for Caofeidian Tug Ship Co and Tangshan Port.
During November, progress was made on other tugboat construction projects with keel laying and block assemblies held for vessels being built for Caofeidian Tug Ship Co, Fujian Port, Suzhou Ming Shipping Service Co and Tangshan Port.
