The contract extension covers repairs, refurbishment and upgrades through 2029
The contract involves repairs, refurbishment and upgrading of Shell International Trading and Shipping Co (STASCO) and GasLog’s combined fleet of 43 LNG carriers docking in southeast Asia.
Singapore-based Seatrium, which recently rebranded from Sembcorp Marine in a state-backed merger with Keppel Offshore & Marine, called the contract win, which includes an option to extend further, "a major boost to Singapore’s status as a major global [shipbuilding] hub".
"The recent tender we jointly ran with STASCO indicates Seatrium remains a competitive shipyard offering high-quality services. This aligns with our strategic direction of optimising costs and leveraging our competitiveness. We look forward to strengthening our relationship as we work towards safe, timely and on-budget deliveries for the conversions, repairs and upgrades of our LNG carriers," GasLog LNG services chief operating officer Kostas Karathanos said.
Seatrium calls itself the world’s leader in repairs, upgrades and conversion of LNG carriers, having completed 11 floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) conversions since 2007.
"FSRU conversions are highly complex processes that involve extensive modifications to the vessel’s structure, systems and equipment. In addition, Seatrium converted the world’s first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel, Golar Hili, in 2017," Seatrium said, noting it was targeting continued expansion in the LNG vessel repair and upgrade market in the coming years.
