Gastrade says the facility is undergoing scheduled maintenance less than a year after a restart
Greece’s Alexandroupolis LNG Terminal is undergoing planned maintenance for three months, from 1 April to 30 June, according to operator Gastrade.
"This maintenance was published last October as part of the Company’s Annual Plan for Gas Year 2025–2026 and concerns the implementation of necessary final system adjustments, carried out as part of the remediation works undertaken to address the technical issue that emerged in January 2025," the company told Riviera.
"Upon completion of these adjustments, any remaining operational constraints will be lifted. During the maintenance period, the terminal will not be receiving any cargoes," Gastrade said.
Imports via the Alexandroupolis FSRU had reached just 1.0 TWh by 22 January 2025, when regasification services at the terminal were suspended for several months. Gastrade said in July 2025 that the FSRU was expected to gradually resume full operations starting in mid-August 2025. The facility did restart in mid-August 2025, with regasification and unloading services and took its first LNG cargo since the January shutdown in October 2025.
The Alexandroupolis LNG terminal began its initial operations in Q4 2024 with several months of commissioning.
FSRU Alexandroupolis arrived from Singapore on 17 December 2023, after an extensive conversion process at Seatrium in Singapore. Originally a GasLog LNG carrier, the unit underwent a 10-month transformation, a project valued at approximately US$386M.
The FSRU can store 153,500 m3 of LNG and has a regasification capacity of 23M m3 per day, adding to the Greek National Gas Transmission System with an annual capacity of approximately 5.5Bn m3.
The terminal is connected to the Greek National Natural Gas Transmission System via a 28-km subsea and onshore pipeline, supplying flows of natural gas to countries in southeast Europe, including Bulgaria, Romania and extending further to the Balkans and eastern Europe.
