Greek owner Vita Management doubles bulker acquisitions in US$50M push

The low-profile shipowner has been revealed as the buyer of Medi Nagoya, an 81,800-dwt Kamsarmax bulk carrier built in 2018, which has since been renamed Vita Melody. Shipbrokers earlier reported that the scrubber-fitted vessel was sold to undisclosed interests for a price exceeding US$28M.

This marks Vita Management’s second purchase of 2025. In May, Riviera reported the company had acquired Cielo Dei Maronti, a 37,133-dwt Handysize bulk carrier built in 2017 and previously owned by Italy’s d’Amico Dry. That vessel, which reportedly changed hands in March for around US$21M, now sails as Vita Athina.

With Vita Melody, Vita Management’s fleet grows to eight bulk carriers, spanning Handysize, Ultramax and Kamsarmax segments.

Kamsarmaxes in demand

The acquisition comes amid heightened activity in the dry bulk sale and purchase market, where buyers have defied the typical summer slowdown. Allied Shipbroking noted in its latest report that transactions remain healthy, ranging from Capesize to Handysize vessels.

The Kamsarmax class, where Vita Management has now placed its bet, continues to attract strong demand. According to Allied, a 2016-built unit was recently sold for just over US$22M, while a 2011-built ship fetched around US$14M. A 2010-built Post-Panamax also achieved a price above US$16M.

Allied’s data shows that, as of the end of August, 104 Kamsarmaxes have changed hands in 2025, making the segment the third most active in the dry bulk market, behind Ultramax and Handysize vessels.
