Introduced in 2014, Everllence’s two-stroke, LNG dual-fuel engine marks milestone with order from leading liner shipping company
Liner shipping company Hapag-Lloyd marked a major milestone in its decarbonisation journey by ordering the 1,000th Everllence B&W ME-GI dual-fuel engine.
The commemorative event took place at Hapag-Lloyd’s Hamburg headquarters, where Everllence chief executive, Uwe Lauber presented a plaque to Hapag-Lloyd chief executive, Rolf Habben Jansen, and company fleet managing director, Silke Lehmköster.
The engine ordered – an Everllence B&W 7G95 ME-GI model – will power Hull 1721, a next-generation container vessel currently under construction at China’s Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding.
“Dual-fuel technologies like the ME-GI are essential to building a low-emissions fleet and driving change across the industry,” said Mr Jansen.
Added Dr Lauber, “It’s fitting this landmark order comes from a global leader like Hapag-Lloyd. The ME-GI engine has become the go-to solution for efficient, low-emissions shipping, especially in the container segment.”
The two-stroke, slow-speed LNG dual-fuel ME-GI engine was first introduced in 2014.
