Havfram Wind has ordered a second wind turbine installation vessel, a deal that sees its exercising the first option it holds with shipbuilder CIMC Raffles
The Norwegian company, which has won a spate of contracts in recent weeks, said the design will be similar to the GustoMSC NG20000X jack-up it currently has under construction.
Havfram said the vessel will incorporate hybrid drive train technology designed to significantly reduce carbon emissions per installed MW of offshore wind capacity. Delivery will take place late Q4 2025.
The NG20000X vessel will be able to install turbines with a rotor diameter of more than 300 m and XXL monopiles weighing up to 3,000 tonnes, in water depths of up to 70 m. The crane on the vessel will have lifting capacity of 3,250 tonnes.
Havfram placed an order for the first vessel in late 2022, a deal that included options for up to three more similar units.
Havfram recently signed a contract with Ørsted to install wind turbines at the Hornsea 3 project, and is Vattenfall’s preferred supplier for the company’s Norfolk projects. It has also signed a preferred supplier agreement with RWE for turbine installation support for the Nordseecluster project.
