A series of newbuild product and chemical tankers being built in China for a German owner will have integrated navigation systems with solid-state radar, ECDIS and chart stations
An integrated bridge system has been installed on the first newbuild tanker constructed for German Tanker Shipping in China as part of a six-vessel series.
Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry is building 41,000-dwt oil and chemical tankers for the German owner’s drive to expand its global operations.
These tankers will have a Synapsis integrated navigation system (INS) provided by Anschütz, with seven multifunctional workstations for ECDIS, chart radar, conning, propulsion control, and communications.
Xiamen delivered the first of these tankers, TMS Seadevil, in January 2026 to German Tanker Shipping, and others will follow, with Anschütz delivering and Eastone installing INS modules in the shipyard, supported by teams in Shanghai.
Anschütz said these tankers are designed to support safe navigation in restricted waters, precise manoeuvring in ports and terminals and reliable global operations under varying environmental conditions.
German Tanker Shipping set high expectations for the bridge systems and integrated navigation technology on these product and chemical tankers.
Each Synapsis INS has two dedicated wing consoles, solid-state radars, dual ECDIS, conning stations, a chart station with a 42-inch display for voyage planning and situational awareness, a NautoPilot 5400 autopilot and two Standard 30 MF maintenance-free gyro compass units.
“The Synapsis architecture provides a uniform operational concept across all workstations, centralised system monitoring and consistent data integrity across the bridge,” said Anschütz
“Solid-state radar further enhances target detection and reduces maintenance requirements, supporting reliable performance throughout the vessels’ operating profiles”
