Developer of vessel-motion radar will expand its technology offering in the offshore energy sectors to improve safety and extend operations
Next Ocean has received seed investment from Arches Capital to accelerate its growth, scale production, expand into new markets and further develop its predictive radar technology.
Its radar technology can identify rogue waves and dangerous sea conditions. It provides real-time insights into wave-induced vessel motions, enabling operators to anticipate conditions up to three minutes ahead.
“By accelerating our growth, we can bring our potentially life-saving technology to operators worldwide and strengthen the relationships we have built with our existing clients,” said Next Ocean chief executive Karel Roozen.
“This partnership marks a significant milestone for Next Ocean, reinforcing our long-term commitment to offshore industries and further establishing our market position.
During Riviera’s Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference and Exhibition, Mr Roozen explained the safety benefits of this radar technology.
Its technology analyses conventional X-band or S-band radar responses to identify the noise clutter than navigational radar tries to ignore and remove. This analysis identifies wave heights, especially those that could be dangerous to vessels located in oil, gas and windfarm fields by dynamic positioning.
“Our technology enables safer and more efficient offshore operations, minimising operational risks and maximising uptime, even in rough weather,” said Mr Roozen.
Arches Capital managing partner, Frank Appeldoorn, said Next Ocean’s predictive radar technology is reshaping offshore safety and efficiency.
“We are excited to support its global expansion and help bring this innovation to more maritime professionals, making offshore operations safer and more reliable,” said Mr Appeldoorn.
The Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference, Awards & Exhibition 2025 was held in London on 4-5 February 2025.
