A joint venture of Italian owners will add a newbuild escort tug, built in Turkey, to its growing fleet in Greece during Q2 2025
Nemeca Towage & Salvage is preparing to receive a newbuild escort tug to enhance its towage and ship handling services in Greek ports. The Italian joint venture watched the launch of the new 29-m azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugboat at a shipyard in Turkey run by Sanmar Shipyards.
This vessel was built to Robert Allan Ltd’s RAstar 2900SX design, with a moulded beam of 13 m, moulded depth of around 5 m, and a bollard pull of over 80 tonnes. Two Caterpillar-manufactured Cat 3516E main engines each develop 2,350 kW at 1,800 rpm, a FiFi1 off-ship fire-fighting system will provide emergency response, and accommodation is provided for a crew of 10.
This newbuild has a sponsoned hullform that has been proven, through model and full-scale testing, to significantly enhance escort towing and seakeeping, including in exposed areas outside ports.
Nemeca is a joint venture between Cafimar, Neri and MedTugs with a fleet of tugboats in Piraeus, Thessaloniki and Kavala, all in Greece, providing harbour towage, open-sea towage and salvage services.
The 28th International Tug & Salvage Convention, Exhibition & Awards will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, 19-21 May 2026. Use this link for more details of this industry event and the associated social and networking opportunities.
