Aberdeen-based North Sea Midstream Partners (NSMP) has selected px Group to operate Risavika Liquefaction Plant
NSMP acquired the Norwegian small-scale LNG plant in November from Nordic energy company Gasum.
Meanwhile, px Group has a long-standing relationship with NSMP. It already operates and maintains the St Fergus Gas Terminal just north of Peterhead in Scotland and Teesside Gas Processing Plant in the UK on behalf of NSMP.
This represents px Group’s first operational site outside of the UK, which has formed a new operating entity in Norway, px Norge AS.
Risavika LNG operates predominantly on electricity produced from renewable sources, produces LNG for heating, shipping and road transport from natural gas produced offshore Norway. The small-scale liquefaction facility produces about 300,000 tonnes of LNG annually and has a storage tank of 28,000 m3. The plant also has a marine bunkering facility.
“We are delighted to be joining NSMP at RLP and replicating in Europe the close operating partnership we have honed at St Fergus and Teesside,” said px Group chief executive Geoff Holmes.
Risavika Liquefaction Plant represents px Group’s “expanding international footprint” said Mr Holmes, noting it is the company’s “first major LNG site, which is in our capability sweet spot. LNG plays a critical role in the energy mix and is a component in the transition to lower-carbon sources of energy for sectors such as maritime.”
px Group assisted NSMP in its acquisition activities, including personnel management, contract analysis, infrastructure and procurement.
px Group will manage 21 employees at Risavika Liquefaction Plant, and has appointed a new board director. Risavika LNG operations will be overseen by px Group Onshore Oil & Gas managing director Mike Horgan.
Despite the sale of Risavika Liquefaction Plant to NSMP, Gasum remains a major off-taker of the LNG and liquefied biogas produced at Risavika under a long-term tolling contract. The separate bunkering solution, serving maritime customers, is not included in the transaction scope.
