The agreement makes Intellian a preferred terminal supplier for broadband and VSAT satellite communications in bands Speedcast delivers for the commercial shipping, offshore, passenger shipping and fishing sectors
In this multi-million-dollar agreement, the Pyeongtaek, South Korea-headquartered group will provide antennas and bellow-deck equipment covering L, C, Ku and Ka bands of connectivity to Speedcast’s clients, building upon the existing relationship between the two companies.
Communications providers have seen demand increase from the commercial maritime industry for crew welfare services and an anticipated leap in connectivity as the cruise and ferry sectors rebound from lows during the global Covid-19 pandemic.
Intellian will continue to provide antennas of all sizes between the C700 L-band antenna for Iridium Certus services and up to the 2.4-m v240M/MT models to connect with satellites in geostationary, low Earth (LEO) and medium Earth (MEO) orbits.
Intellian will supply new antennas and support continued equipment upgrades across Speedcast’s existing customer sites.
“We look forward to our continued collaboration, enabling the seamless delivery of critical connectivity solutions to meet the needs of our customers in all the markets we serve,” said Speedcast chief executive Joe Spytek.
This includes passenger ship operators, after Speedcast renewed agreements with all the major cruise ship owners and expanded its unified global platform, by adding 13 Gbps of capacity to its network to support European and Alaskan cruise requirements.
Intellian’s expanding product portfolio includes v240MT tri-band antennas, installed on some of the largest cruise ships, and the NX maritime VSAT series.
“This agreement signifies an important partnership for the industry,” said Intellian chief executive and president Eric Sung. “The collaboration will allow us to continue to provide innovative solutions and value to customers globally, addressing the burgeoning demand for satellite communications across the markets we serve.”
Intellian is building a new factory in Pyeongtaek to increase antenna production as it anticipates further growth in new models, such as terminals for OneWeb LEO connectivity and more ships upgraded to VSAT.
This will enable Intellian to deliver optimised logistics and warehousing capabilities to Speedcast, which now has 30 Gbps of total bandwidth to provide customers across energy, passenger, commercial maritime and enterprise markets.
