Swedish pipe and cable transit manufacturer, Roxtec, has its own testing facilities. The video shows its pipe transits, typically used to seal between the pipe and the bulkhead or deck the pipe is passing through, being subjected to heat far in excess of the required safety standards.
Roxtec said it prefers to reveal how it conducts its safety tests so that others in the industry can learn and benefit from these vital safety features.
In January 2018, a prominent member of the LNG orderbook, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group and power system provider ABB specified Roxtec EMC sealing solutions for four LNG carriers to be built at the yard.
State-owned Hudong-Zhonghua in Shanghai, China, is building the 174,000 cbm LNG carriers Pan Asia, Pan America, Pan Europe and Pan Africa for the Queensland Curtis LNG project in Australia.
Roxtec cable transits will be used for the electric propulsion system and the reliquefaction system on the LNG carriers. Roxtec transits are openable and have optional spare capacity to simplify upgrades throughout the lifetime of a vessel.
“We had a great time working with Roxtec. When we had an installation problem or special sealing requirements, we got very quick response. Roxtec provided us not only with good quality products, but also with excellent service!” says Mr Ling Xiaoming, head of electric workshop of the LNG team at Hudong-Zhonghua.
