Maintenance and repair work on Fugro’s twin-hulled survey vessel Fugro Mercator has been completed by Damen Shiprepair Harlingen (DSHL).
The original maintenance and repair work included an equipment overhaul covering the main and auxiliary engines, thrusters and winches, and an upgrade to accommodation areas including a refit of the kitchen and dining areas.
Once maintenance was under way it was also decided a hull upgrade was needed to extend the vessel’s life on the basis of its specialised near-shore survey role.
“Due to the extensive scope of the project, triggered by the modifications to the hull, a new delivery date of the vessel to the owner was agreed,” said DSHL project manager Arjan Sebel.
Fugro Mercator measures 42 m long by 10 m wide and has a dwt of 67. It was constructed by Damen in 2003 and is used by Fugro to carry out bathymetric, geophysical, cable and pipeline route surveys.
