Damen group will have up to 14 vessels up for sale in October, including stan pontoons and tugs that were built in Vietnam and China. It is transporting these new vessels from Damen shipyards in Vietnam to Rotterdam in The Netherlands on heavy lift ship Svenja.
Six tugs, built at Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam were loaded on to SAL Heavy Lift’s 12,975 dwt transport ship in Halong Bay. This was after eight stan pontoons were loaded on Svenja from Damen Yichang Shipyard in Shanghai, China. The vessel is sailing across the Indian Ocean, around the Cape of Good Hope and up the Atlantic at an average speed of 18.5 to 19 knots. It is due to arrive in Rotterdam by 15 October.
Damen service co-ordinator for heavy lift Rimmert Berlijn said this was the most efficient method of transporting multiple vessels from Asian yards to Europe. He said 38 vessels were transported in two separate transports in 2015. “Transporting multiple vessels on one heavy-lift ship makes the whole delivery process as efficient as possible,” he said. “We are continually looking for better options ‒ ways to make things even more efficient.”
