The Port of Hamilton in Ontario played host to the first LNG bunkering of a European vessel at the Canadian port
Swedish owner Furetank Rederi’s LNG dual-fuel propulsion tanker, Fure Viten, currently chartered to Canadian company Desgagnés, achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first European-owned vessel to receive a stem of LNG bunkers at the Port of Hamilton in Ontario.
This event exhibits the Port of Hamilton’s expertise in LNG bunker operations, having successfully executed more than 40 such operations for various owners.
The LNG supply to Sweden-flagged Fure Viten was co-ordinated by REV LNG, a company aiming to expand its LNG bunkering business in the Great Lakes.
REV LNG senior vice president Stephen Soule highlighted this ambition on the business social website LinkedIn.
17,999-dwt Fure Viten, belonging to Furetank’s Vinga series, has achieved an impressive 55% reduction in CO2 emissions compared with the previous generation of vessels.
Furetank’s ultimate objective is to attain zero emissions by operating the vessels entirely on renewable, liquid biogas. However, currently, the availability of biofuel supply remains insufficient.
