Two IBM business partners have combined forces to provide asset management programs to the shipping industry
Shipping companies will be able to use IBM software for data transmission, storage and analytics to optimise their operations on a cloud-based service to lower risk and costs and improve fleet and inventory management.
Two of IBM’s gold-standard business partners are jointly offering IBM’s Maximo enterprise asset management software to shipowners, operators and managers.
SRO Solutions, which specialises in providing asset management programs to the marine industry will work with Projetech to deliver data synchronisation and storage services.
This arrangement enables SRO Solutions to offer Projetech’s cloud-hosted Maximo as a service station with SRO’s own software tools.
IBM’s Maximo asset management system helps marine companies to reduce operational risk and costs, manage assets and inventory more effectively and optimise work processes, said IBM program director Iqbal Alikhan.
He said investing in cloud-based services will enable maritime companies to access data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain processes.
“AI is taking off with the first adoptions and blockchain is being deployed,” he said in Dubai during UAE Maritime Week in September.
“These are driving technology take-up on board. We have seen a jump in testing these technologies and improvements in understanding how technologies are working [for shipping]. The speed of change is huge, and organisations need to decide which technology to back – a solution is there,” he said.
SRO Solutions will implement Maximo within the maritime sector, providing associated tools such as SRO data replicator SDR for dependable and configurable data synchronisation for Maximo sites, on ships and ashore, to remain harmonised regardless of data communication latency and bandwidth. It will also offer SRO data utility SDU tool for software upgrades and data migration.
“Our new partnership allows our customers to move their central Maximo systems into a cloud-provisioned Maximo as a service, which takes away all the associated cost and resource of the central system,” said SRO managing director Tony Lackey.
“Our SDR will seamlessly and automatically replicate data between the cloud and their local operations, keeping their systems fully in-sync,” he said.
Projetech enterprise sales executive Darrell Tucker confirmed proven tools SDU and SDR will be available within the Projetech cloud.
