Menck pile-driving solution selected for Taiwanese project

The contract includes delivery and operation of Menck MHU 4400S hydraulic hammers and a newly-developed underwater noise reduction system, the Menck noise reduction system (MNRU), and a live penetration depth measurement system.

The hydraulic drive unit and the external shock absorber ring are being manufactured and assembled at Menck’s headquarters in Kaltenkirchen, Germany and will be mobilised to Rotterdam for integration with the hammer housings and a 220-tonne ram weight assembly.

Handover to the client will take place by the end of December ready for the scheduled mobilisation to Taiwan in January 2021, where piling of 333 piles will commence in February.

The company will use its newly developed hydraulic MHU 4400S system, equipped with the MNRU, to reduce underwater noise levels significantly, adjusting the impact of the hammer.

Menck will also equip the hammers with GPS-based penetration depth-measuring devices to provide real-time notification of penetration depth as they are driven into the seabed.
