Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has been named as preferred supplier for wpd offshore’s Yunlin offshore windfarm in Taiwan and has signed a letter of intent for the project.
The letter of intent, which is subject to final contract, will remain valid until July 2019. It was signed based on the use of 80 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD turbines, and includes a 15-year long-term service agreement. Construction will start in 2019, with turbine installation beginning in 2020.
Siemens Gamesa offshore chief executive Andreas Nauen said, “We are delighted to have been selected by wpd and glad to confirm today that the SG 8.0-167 will be ready for the Taiwanese market from 2020.”
Siemens Gamesa has already signed several memoranda of understanding with local partners in Taiwan.
“Strong partners are now driving the implementation of an early utility-scale offshore project” said Mr Nauen. “Work we are doing with partners including Taiwan International Ports Corporation, Yeong Guan Energy Technology Group and Swancor Holdings Co aims to develop the Taiwanese offshore wind industry.”
Siemens Gamesa is also supplying the turbines for Phase 2 of the Formosa 1 offshore windfarm in Taiwan.
