RH Marine has gained official certification for its new ecdis that will be available with the Rhodium bridge systems. The Dutch company has demonstrated that its electronic navigation systems comply with the updated standards introduced by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). These standards are due to be enforced from 1 September 2017.
One of the main benefits of upgrading ecdis systems to the latest IHO S-52 presentation library will be a reduction in the number of audible alarms triggered by ecdis. RH Marine said this should ease the issue of alarm fatigue on the bridge, while still maintaining safety at sea.
All ecdis suppliers must implement this standard and make sure their system is adapted before the flag states declare it compulsory. RH Marine has been working with classification society Bureau Veritas to improve ecdis to comply with IHO’s updated standards.
