Seas of Solutions acquires Orolia portfolio

This acquisition adds products for vessel monitoring, voyage recording, emergency communications, vessel tracking and personnel locating, but does not include Orolia’s fleet management solutions.

Seas Of Solutions has added major marine technology brands Netwave, McMurdo and Kannad Marine to its growing portfolio through this acquisition. It can supply voyage data recorders (VDRs), personal location beacons, Automatic Identification System (AIS) equipment and emergency position indicating radio beacons.

Seas Of Solutions will be led by former chief executive of Netwave and Radio Holland, Paul Smulders. The company said it will retain all associated Orolia Maritime staff under their current terms and conditions.

The European original equipment manufacturers’ global distribution network will also remain, and the service and support network and product warranty terms will be unchanged. Seas Of Solutions is headquartered in the Netwave building in Zoetermeer, in the Netherlands.

“I am very excited by the acquisition, as it allows us to focus on developing, manufacturing and selling emergency beacons and VDR black boxes for the marine sector,” said Mr Smulders.

Among key products in the ranges being acquired by Seas Of Solutions is FastFind Return Link, the world’s first return-link enabled distress beacon. FastFind ReturnLink transmits the user’s unique ID and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) location via the global network of Cospas Sarsat search and rescue satellites. Galileo’s return-link service transmits a return signal back to the user’s beacon to confirm the alert has been processed and location has been detected.

When the location beacon receives the return-link message, it displays a blue light to inform the user that search and rescue professionals are aware of their situation and location.

Seas Of Solutions already supplies OmniCom satellite communications and vessel monitoring equipment.

Orolia will continue to supply resilient positioning, navigation and timing and GNSS solutions for military and commercial applications worldwide.
