Bureau Veritas is investing in New York-based maritime software developer OrbitMI to provide data-driven solutions to decarbonise shipping
This is part of a wider collaboration to develop products across both organisations and to promote a digital transformation across maritime. Digital products enable shipowners, operators and managers to meet global and international regulatory and decarbonisation requirements, including IMO’s carbon intensity index, the European Union’s Emissions Trading System and the recently enacted FuelEU standards.
OrbitMI can transform data into information and insights that individuals and teams can use to enhance daily tasks to improve efficiency and performance. Its software-as-a-service platform, Orbit, can be integrated with existing systems and business processes within shipping companies.
“We are linking the interests of operators and charterers in ship and fleet performance with our technical expertise, insight and classification activities,” said Bureau Veritas president for marine and offshore Matthieu de Tugny.
“This expanding role is deeply intertwined with data monitoring and the implementation of digital solutions. We can bring unique insight to our customers.”
OrbitMI will use this collaboration to further strengthen its platform with high-quality, trustworthy data, based on solid data science, and aims to develop future-proof solutions to address additional challenges the maritime industry will face longer term.
“This collaboration is a significant affirmation, from a long-established maritime institution and global testing, inspection and certification giant,” said OrbitMI chief executive Ali Riaz.
