To move the new heavyweight torpedo anchors required for rigs operating in the extreme depths off Brazil, Rolls-Royce has conceived a tailor made solution. Handling systems for this newly developed anchor type will be installed on two AHTSs to be built for the Norwegian shipowner, DOF.
Brazilian oil major Petrobras has developed the torpedo anchor to meet the challenges of the depth and seabed conditions encountered off the country, and it has chosen the Rolls-Royce solution for handling the anchors on and off OSVs. The torpedo anchor itself weighs a massive 130 tonnes whereas a conventional regular anchor weighs in at 22 tonnes. OSJ
