Shipmanagement giant V.Group is to launch the app version of its ShipSure program on 1 January, offering its clients whatever information they need regarding marine operations, procurement, finance and crewing, “within three clicks” on their tablet or mobile phone.
Director Jesper Kjaedegaard and director information systems Stephen MacFarlane offered a preview of the app to customers and journalists during London International Shipping Week. V.Group is rolling out the ShipSure app to clients, launching trials with selected shipowners in October and November.
“We hear a lot of talk about digitisation, but not many companies are actually doing it,” Mr Kjaedegaard said. “Today, we are doing something about it.”
The app uses GPS to monitor vital data such as fuel consumption, sailing speed and conditions at sea to deliver data in real-time. Preference settings allow users to decide how much information they receive. They can also use inbuilt messaging systems to request additional information.
The ShipSure app offers shipowners control, transparency and real-time information. It allows customers to check whether planned maintenance is overdue, and why, and to request copies of test certificates. It can generate critical spares alerts or compare budgeted running costs against real costs and generate PDF invoices for procurement.
“This goes beyond the traditional noon report, to drill down into the data in real-time,” Mr MacFarlane said.
V.Group will develop a second app for seafarers, to launch in 2018.
The company has full technical management of 1,000 vessels, including more than 350 tankers. It manages more than 44,000 seafarers and nearly 3,000 shore-based staff.
