Statoil has signed a contract with Vicinay Marine to design, manufacture and deliver mooring components for the world’s first floating offshore windfarm, the Hywind pilot project offshore Scotland. Vicinay Marine will provide the mooring chains and connectors for the project later in 2016. Fabrication of the mooring system will take place at Vicinay Marine's facilities in Sestao and Galdames in Spain.
The 30 megawatt pilot (MW) project will consist of five, 6MW floating turbines operating in waters exceeding 100m. The objective of the project is to demonstrate cost efficient, low risk solutions for commercial scale floating offshore windfarms.
Vicinay Marine said the deal is "a major milestone" in its efforts to grow its product portfolio and presence in the offshore energy sector.
