Two newbuild tugboats have entered the fleet of Noatum Maritime after their construction in Turkey
Noatum Maritime has expanded its fleet with two escort tugs to support gas carriers at LNG terminals in West Africa.
The AD Ports Group subsidiary welcomed Alnouf and Alyasat 1 after their construction by Med Marine at its shipyard in Eregli, northern Turkey. Built to Med Marine’s MED-A3200 series, they are outfitted for multi-purpose tasks such as towing, escorting, pushing, mooring and fire-fighting.
Med Marine said these 32-m tugs were built with a beam of 13 m, a draught of 6 m, around 80 tonnes of bollard pull, a top speed of just over 12 knots and accommodation for 10 crew.
Alnouf and Alyasat 1 were configured for operations in high-security and sensitive environments, challenging port conditions and regulated maritime zones.
These tugs have additional safety features for working in LNG terminals including fire-risk mitigation systems and emergency crew evacuation protocols, plus they have a FiFi1 fire-fighting system to respond to emergency situations. Propulsion consists of two high-speed diesel engines linked to two azimuth thrusters at the stern with fixed-pitch propellers in nozzles.
According to automatic identification system data, both Alnouf and Alyasat 1 are heading to Lekki, a major port in Nigeria.
MED-A3200 series escort tugs have previously been built for P&O Maritime Logistics to Robert Allan Ltd’s RAstar 3200-W design.
Noatum Maritime is part of AD Ports Group’s maritime and shipping cluster providing marine, transhipment and offshore services, drydocking and agency in ports.
