Suderman & Young Towing has ordered two new harbour tugs from Master Boat Builders in the US
These newbuild 26-m tugs will be built to a Robert Allan Ltd design, ABS class and will meet United States Coast Guard regulations for design, construction, and operations.
Master Boat Builders will construct these tugboats at its Coden shipyard in Alabama for delivery in H2 2022.
With a beam of 11.8 m and a bollard pull of more than 52 tonnes, power will come from two Caterpillar 3512E main engines, each complying with US Environmental Protection Agency Tier 4 emissions standards and delivering 1,650 kW.
Main engines will drive two Schottel SRP 430 Z drive thrusters with fixed pitch propellers and a Markey Machinery DEPCF-48 winch will be installed on the bow of each tug.
It laid the keel for these tugs in Q3 2021, with the first tug scheduled for delivery in July 2022.
“Utilising our integrated approach to vessel design, engineering and construction, we have a comprehensive plan to build these new tugboats on schedule and at a value to Suderman & Young,” said Master Boat Builders president Garrett Rice.
Suderman & Young is major tugboat operator in the US, with vessels serving terminals and assisting ships using western Gulf Coast ports.
Master Boat Builders has built over 430 vessels including tugboats, offshore supply vessels, fishing vessels and dive support vessels since it was established in 1979.
