Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has tapped TMC Compressors to deliver the compressed air systems for two LNG carriers that the South Korean shipbuilding giant is building for Greek shipowner Maran Gas Maritime
Both of the Angelicoussis Shipping Group subsidiary Maran Gas’ 174,000-m3 LNG ships will be equipped with a high-pressure dual-fuel propulsion engine and energy saving systems. They will be built at DSME’s Okpo Shipyard and are expected to be delivered in 2026.
TMC will deliver its energy-efficient marine compressed air systems to the two LNG vessels, along with control and service air compressors. The Norwegian supplier said it will manufacture the equipment in Europe and ship it to Korea. TMC has not disclosed the value of the contract.
“In 2020, we were awarded a contract to deliver our marine compressed system to eight LNG vessels that DSME was building for Maran Gas Maritime. To secure more business from the same yard and shipowner is a confirmation that our systems deliver in line with their expectations to quality, energy use and operating expenditure,” said TMC’s Director of Sales and Business Development, Hans Petter Tanum.
Mr Tanum said “Our marine compressed air systems are highly energy-efficient, which means that we tend to be the favoured supplier for yards and shipowners that are chasing emissions and cost reductions as we do,”
This year, the company has won deals from Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) and Jiangnan Shipyard to supply marine air lubrication system (ALS) compressors for LNG vessels currently under construction.
