Volvo Penta and Danfoss Editron have been selected by Grovfjord Mek Verksted (GMV) to power Ocean Infinity’s new Armada uncrewed surface vessels
The uncrewed vessels will have hybrid-electric propulsion with Volvo Penta DC gensets and Danfoss DC grid control system.
Danfoss will provide the energy management system and propulsion control for each vessel. The engines will be variable speed gensets delivered by Volvo Penta. A Volvo Penta D8 MH variable-speed engine will power the marine gensets on board.
Danfoss Editron, Volvo Penta, and Grovfjord said they are working in close collaboration to enable the Danfoss control system to optimise the use of the D8 engine for the most efficient power/consumption performance and optimal environmental footprint.
The Armada uncrewed vessels will undertake surveys in the offshore oil and gas and offshore wind industries. Each vessel will also be able to launch remotely operated underwater vehicles.
The first four vessels in the Armada fleet are due to be delivered to Ocean Infinity in 2021.
