NearshoreNetworks (NSN) has secured a multi-year contract from a leading jack-up and semi-submersible rig operator for a fully managed VSAT service
Newtec Technology VSAT will be used on rigs operating in Europe, including in the North Sea.
NearshoreNetworks will replace the incumbent’s hardware with its own VSAT antennas and terminal equipment on these offshore drilling rigs to provide Ku-band VSAT.
VSAT will enhance communications for operational, crew and third-party requirements delivering services for real-time data transmissions, video conferencing and seafarer welfare.
NearshoreNetworks chief executive Bob Miltenberger did not want to name the client, but told Riviera Maritime Media how these VSAT services will be delivered through specific satellites.
“Our networks are utilised on multiple satellite operators’ networks such as Eutelsat, SES and Intelsat,” he said. “On this project we are using our Newtec network on Eutelsat satellites.”
“This customer required reliable, flexible and future-proofed communications solutions that could be delivered across its rigs,” Mr Miltenberger said.
NearshoreNetworks will initially provide VSAT services to two rigs, with more installations to follow, he said.
“We look forward to expanding our relationship further with our value-added services,” Mr Miltenberger said.
NearshoreNetworks has installed several VSAT services over its networks worldwide, serving offshore drilling rigs, diving support vessels, platform supply vessels, accommodation units, construction vessels, survey ships and passenger vessels.
“We serve a broad base with these scattered across all the major play areas of fossil fuel, wind, heavy cargo and passenger movement,” said Mr Miltenberger.
Technologies to enhance offshore operations will be discussed in depth during Riviera’s Offshore Webinar Week, from 19 January 2021 - use this link for more details and to register for these events
