Windward Offshore has taken delivery of its first commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV), Windward Athens
Built by Vard in Norway and delivered on schedule by Vard Brattvaag, the vessel is designed to support installation, commissioning and maintenance activity on offshore windfarms.
With a length overall of 87.5 m and breadth of 19.5 m, the new CSOV has accommodation for up to 120 people and has a motion-compensated gangway, advanced crane system and hybrid propulsion technology. The vessel is also prepared for operation on green methanol.
Windward Offshore managing director Benjamin Vordemfelde said, “Delivery of Windward Athens is a defining moment for Windward Offshore.”
Windward Athens is now being readied for its first charter, which will commence immediately. This will see the CSOV working for RWE in collaboration with North Star Renewables, after RWE agreed contracts with North Star and Windward Offshore for vessels that will support its windfarms in the UK and German sectors of the North Sea.
Three more CSOVs of the same design are under construction for the owner, Windward Paris, Windward Munich and Windward Hamburg.
