A national strike failed to dent attendance of Riviera’s November Tanker Shipping & Trade Conference, Europe in Athens.
The room was full when the first session got underway and did not dip across the eight sessions, assorted networking breaks, drinks reception and popular gala dinner and awards that followed. Roundtable discussions on ’Vessel General Permit compliance’ and ’Connectivity as a strategy’ were also oversubscribed.
Our programme reflected the tanker industry’s priorities. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has permanently redrawn global tanker markets, so it was no surprise the implications of an EU cap on the price of Russian oil was a major talking point. The challenge of complying with environmental legislation, notably EEXI and CII regulation, was another keenly debated topic. In panel discussions shipowners highlighted the importance of clear targets and clear dates for the implementation of environmental rules and regulations.
Athen’s majestic Acropolis provided a stunning backdrop to our rooftop drinks reception. Delegates also connected and re-connected in the relaxed and convivial setting of the gala dinner.
In 2023 Riviera will organise two-day tanker conferences in London (April) and Athens (November). There will also be a Tanker Shipping & Trade Webinar Week in June.
