This sentiment was echoed by the more than 500 industry professionals who attended, seeking actionable insights into the critical trends shaping the OSV sector. The conference earned high praise for its well-curated programme, which addressed key challenges and opportunities, helping attendees refine their strategies and gain a competitive edge.
A major focus was the ageing global offshore support vessel fleet. With more than half the global fleet expected to exceed 15 years of age by 2025, discussions explored its dual impact: tightening supply that supports higher day rates for vessel owners, but also rising maintenance costs and downtime risks. Presentations provided essential data for forecasting and investment decisions, including fleet renewal and expansion strategies. Delegates came away with deeper insights into the market dynamics affecting vessel charter rates, operational costs and financial planning. Day rate thresholds for financing new vessel construction were another key topic, and here again there was clear analysis on parameters for fleet renewal. Practical advice was also shared on addressing near-term skills shortages, achieving mid-term efficiency gains, and adapting to long-term regulatory changes.
Regional growth opportunities were highlighted. Presenters discussed production increases and offshore activity in West Africa, the Middle East and Mexico. Petrobras’s multi-billion-dollar investment programme received particular attention, with insights into market entry strategies and partnerships. These discussions set the stage for Riviera’s upcoming OSJ Americas Conference in Rio de Janeiro this October.
Technical innovation was very much in focus. One standout presentation revealed how AI-enabled predictive maintenance has reduced unplanned downtime by 20%. The exhibition showcased a wide range of cutting-edge products and services, from advanced vessel designs to propulsion systems and digital solutions transforming the OSV sector.
Networking remained a cornerstone of the event. Coffee breaks, lunches and a drinks reception facilitated collaboration and led to immediate commercial opportunities. The OSJ Awards Dinner provided a celebratory atmosphere to honour industry excellence and innovation while strengthening professional connections.
In 2025 Riviera will host several regional OSV-focused events: the OSJ Asia Conference in Singapore (9-10 September), the OSJ Americas Conference in Rio de Janeiro (7-8 October), and the OSJ Middle East Conference in Dubai (9-10 December). Webinars focused on OSV and offshore wind topics are planned for September and October.
