How astute operators will capture €1Trn offshore wind market

Missed February’s Offshore Wind Journal Conference? Then you missed key insights on an industry emerging stronger after two punishing years. Here are five key lessons gleaned from the sell-out one-day event.

The market has pivoted

Delegates heard about commitments for 15 GW of annual builds and 100 GW of collaborative projects, with nine countries setting out requirements for 300 GW across northern waters by 2050. The sector committed to €1.0Trn (US$1.2Trn) in economic impact and 30% cost cuts by 2040. Once a source of sleepless nights for three-quarters of delegates, regulatory uncertainty now favours the decisive.

Vessels lose a quarter of their time

Hybrid vessels retain 96% battery health after five years and 15,000 hours. For a quarter of operational time, a vessel idles unused, yet advanced motion forecasting unlocks work in higher sea states, and innovative hull designs surpass traditional catamarans for turbine access.

Zero emissions are now practical

The world’s first fully zero-emissions commissioning service operation vessel is under construction in Spain. It boasts 24.4 MWh of battery capacity plus a methanol system, consuming just 0.15% of a GW-scale windfarm’s output.

Autonomy can yield €1.2M savings

A case study showcased remote cranes serving Aker BP that were tested in Poland and operated from Bergen. Another case study detailed autonomous gangways delivering €1.2M (US$1.4M) in yearly savings per vessel by eliminating six crew positions.

The value of in-person attendance

Delegates praised the direct access to decision-makers. They left with clear roadmaps to claim their piece of the €1Trn offshore wind prize.

Riviera’s year-round coverage of the offshore wind market continues in print and online. Its Offshore Support Journal Conference global series will see the Offshore Support Journal Conference, Asia 2026 take place 9-10 September 2026 in Singapore; Offshore Support Journal Conference, Americas 2026 take place in Brazil 13-14 October 2026; and the Offshore Support Journal Conference, Middle East 2026 take place 8-9 December 2026 in Dubai.
