ZEMBA member AIT Worldwide Logistics vice president global sustainability Chelsea Lamar’s keynote address at the Maritime Decarbonisation, Europe conference will examine how cargo owners are influencing AIT’s sustainability programme
The maritime industry is at a pivotal moment, where thinking differently, conducting business in new ways and forming innovative collaborations are essential to achieving decarbonisation goals. As European shipping companies strive to secure a first-mover advantage in the green transition, the Maritime Decarbonisation, Europe: Conference, Awards & Exhibition 2025 will serve as a platform for progress. From 30 September to 1 October at the Hotel NH Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, industry leaders, policymakers and stakeholders will gather to discuss transformative strategies, showcase pioneering initiatives, and forge alliances to accelerate the industry’s sustainable evolution.
Keynote address: Advancing the green transition
A highlight of the conference will be the keynote by member of the Zero Emission Maritime Buyers Alliance (ZEMBA) and AIT Worldwide Logistics vice president of global sustainability Chelsea Lamar. Ms Lamar will present insights into the role maritime will play in AIT’s sustainability strategy, how cargo owners are influencing AIT’s sustainability programme, and her role in ZEMBA’s collaborative efforts, where over 40 freight forwarders are joining forces to launch a joint tender for marine e-fuels in early 2025, accelerating the adoption of zero-emissions fuels within maritime shipping.
Panel discussion: Exploring new business models and collaborations
Day 1’s fishbowl panel will explore innovative business models and partnerships crucial to scaling decarbonisation efforts. Topics will include adapting to new IMO regulations, rethinking traditional business strategies and offering green solutions such as biofuels and methanol.
Itochu general manager of the green innovation business unit, Takeo Akamatsu, will discuss his company’s ammonia initiatives, including the development of ammonia-powered bulk carriers and bunkering vessels to help kickstart ammonia fuel adoption. Fourth Track managing director Ralph Matlack will showcase the mobile ammonia bunkering vessels his company is developing, enabling shipowners to refuel outside port facilities, addressing concerns over ammonia storage at ports.
The second panel discussion will delve into the commercialisation of decarbonisation across the entire maritime value chain. Industry leaders from FrieslandCampina, South32, ING, Kvarken Ports and Shell will share their strategies for sustainable investment and long-term planning within the green supply chain. FrieslandCampina, as a cargo owner and South32, a charterer, will offer valuable insights into implementing green initiatives in its operations.
The Maritime Decarbonisation, Europe: Conference, Awards & Exhibition 2025 is not only about insightful presentations and discussions. The event also offers ample networking opportunities, including a prestigious gala dinner where the Marine Propulsion Awards 2025 will be presented. Additional exciting announcements and special features are planned, promising a dynamic and engaging experience for all attendees.
