Acquisition boosts chemical tanker demurrage claims integration
Marcura says the Shipdem acquisition adds chemical tanker demurrage expertise and will be integrated into Marcura Claims
Dubai-based maritime payments and integration software provider Marcura has acquired Shipdem, a UK-based specialist in chemical tanker laytime and demurrage, from its parent company, Casper Shipping.
Marcura described chemical tanker demurrage as an area where “operational complexity and contractual nuance demand deep technical knowledge and disciplined claims-handling processes”, and said Shipdem’s team manages “the full end-to-end claims process for traders and operators”.
Marcura group chief executive Henrik Hyldahn said the acquisition was intended to broaden the ways customers can use Marcura’s services across claims handling.
“Customers need different levels of support depending on how they operate,” Mr Hyldahn said.
“Our goal is to deliver that flexibility, whether through software that supports self-service or expert teams who manage the entire claims process. Adding Shipdem and its team strengthens our technical capability in chemical demurrage and reinforces the choice we offer to customers,” he said.
Marcura said Shipdem will be fully integrated into Marcura Claims, with the existing team continuing to focus on chemical demurrage while contributing specialist knowledge across the wider organisation.
Shipdem’s current customers will see continuity of service, supported by Marcura’s wider infrastructure and ongoing technology investment.
Casper Shipping group managing director Michael Shakesheff said, “Marcura’s focus on building comprehensive claims-management capabilities aligns well with what Shipdem has built in the chemical tanker market.”
He added, “Our customers will continue working with the same team they have relied on, now backed by Marcura’s global infrastructure and resources.”
Marcura was founded in 2001, is headquartered in Dubai, and processes over 200,000 port calls and US$17Bn in payments annually.
Shipdem was established in 2012 to provide claims services focused on demurrage.
